Henry William "Bill" Blindow, 95, Derby

Description

Henry William "Bill" Blindow Jr., 95, of Derby, VT passed away at his home on December 4, 2020. He was born on November 24, 1925 in Trenton, NJ to Henry William Blindow Sr. and Rose Marie (Branchette) Blindow. On August 21, 1954 he married Beverly J. (Drake) Blindow.

Mom and dad celebrated 64 years of marriage. Dad was a family man and really amazing. When money was tight, he would just go out and get another job. He sold cars, worked at the Post Office, managed the Metuchen, New Jersey Municipal Pool, and ran basketball clinics for the kids in town on Saturdays. His career was being a Physical Education teacher from 1954-1986 and head basketball coach of a highly successful basketball program at Metuchen High School. Despite all these jobs, dad always managed to watch his kids participate in sports activities. After retirement from Metuchen High School, dad became assistant women's basketball coach at Rutgers University where he was proud to say that Rutgers won the AIAW Women's National Championship.

Dad graduated from Metuchen High School, served in the United States Navy from September 7, 1943 until his honorable discharge on April 26, 1946. He was very proud of his service in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge dad attended Arnold College and received his teaching degree.

Once mom and dad were married, they lived in Metuchen, New Jersey until 1986 when they moved to Cudjoe Key, Florida. In 1990, they moved to Englewood, Florida. Finally, in 2006, they settled in Derby, Vermont. In Vermont, dad learned he had a knack for creativity and refinishing coffee tables which he proudly sold at the Newport Farmer's Market in Newport, VT. Mom and dad really loved their time on Echo and Seymore Lakes. Dad was a proud member of the VFW Post 798 in Newport, Elks Lodge in Newport, American Legion Post 21 in Newport, where he was a member for 75 years, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Newport, where he had many close friends.

He is survived by his children Kip Blindow and his wife Kathleen of Morgan, Kirk Blindow of Derby, and Kendall Carro and her husband Anthony of Metuchen, New Jersey, by his grandchildren, Kyle Blindow and his fiancé Sarah, Keenon Blindow and his wife Kelsey, Kaylana Blindow, Kajsa Blindow and Michael Carro, 2 great grandchildren Kooper and Tristan. He especially loved when they got to visit and was very proud of all of them, and we can't forget his Golden Retriever Kodi.

He was predeceased by his wife Beverly J. Blindow, daughter Kenna Lee Blindow and sisters Peggy Townsend and Rose Horn.

Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 P.M. on Saturday December 12, 2020 at the Curtis-Britch & Bouffard Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport.
